Veselka has been serving up traditional Ukrainian food in the heart of the East Village for more than 60 years. Set on the corner of East Ninth Street and Second Avenue, the cozy Ukrainian coffee shop has grown from a simple newsstand serving soup and sandwiches to a 24-hour gathering spot for the community to enjoy a range of traditional Ukrainian fares such as borscht, bigos, goulash, and pierogi. Breakfast offers the usual dishes of eggs, omelets, blintzes, pancakes, and waffles, as well as Ukrainian combo plates, which feature meat, potatoes, stuffed cabbage with mushroom gravy, mushroom and sauerkraut pierogi, beet and horseradish salad, and grilled kielbasa served with sour cream.
