Built to operate as America’s “First Defense Airport” in the early 1940’s, Millville Army Air Field opened as a gunnery school in January 1943. For the next three years it was an essential training ground for fighter pilots and was home to thousands of soldiers and civilians. At the conclusion of WWII there was no longer a need for the air field and most of its buildings were converted into apartments to house thousands of returning war veterans. When you visit the museum today you can see a large collection of WWII memorabilia, photos and historic documents as well as a fully-operational Link Trainer. The museum hosts regular events including air shows and vintage aircraft.
