If you’re craving a lakeside escape or mountain adventure in New England, I highly recommend you head to Gilford! I’ve spent time here in every season, and you’ll love how it’s tucked between Lake Winnipesaukee and the Belknap Mountains. Whether I’m boating under the summer sun, skiing fresh powder in winter, or catching a live show under the stars, Gilford always gives me that perfect blend of excitement and calm.

Gilford, NH Highlights:

  • For Families: Spend a day at Ellacoya State Park – I’ve picnicked, swum, and soaked up the sun here. You’ll love the sandy beach right on Lake Winnipesaukee—it’s an easy win for families.
  • For Outdoor Enthusiasts: Hike Mount Major – I’ve done this hike more than once, and you’ll be rewarded with sweeping lake and mountain views. It’s great even if you’re hiking with kids or just starting out.
  • For Kids: Splash around at Gunstock Mountain Resort Adventure Park – I’ve seen kids light up riding the mountain coaster and tackling the ropes courses. You’ll find it’s packed with adventure.
  • For an Adventure: Ski or snowboard at Gunstock – I’ve carved through winter powder here, and you’ll find it’s one of New Hampshire’s top ski spots without the crazy crowds.
  • For Music Lovers: Catch a show at Bank of NH Pavilion – I’ve been to a few concerts here, and you’ll get big-name acts in an intimate outdoor setting. Bring a blanket, grab a drink, and enjoy the night.

Best Time to Visit Gilford, NH

I’ve visited Gilford in every season, and it really depends on what you’re into. Summer (June–August) is my go-to for lake fun, hiking, and concerts. Fall (September–October) is absolutely stunning with the foliage—you’ll want to plan a scenic drive. If you’re into skiing like I am, winter (December–March) is your time to shine at Gunstock.

How to Get to Gilford, NH

  • If you are traveling by car: I usually take Route 11—Gilford’s just about 30 minutes from I-93. You’ll reach it in around an hour from Concord or two hours from Boston. It’s a beautiful drive, especially in fall.
  • By Air: When I fly in, I use Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT), just over an hour away. You can also fly into Boston Logan (BOS) if you don’t mind the 2-hour drive north.
  • By Bus: I’ve taken Concord Coach Lines to nearby Laconia before—you’ll find local rides from there into Gilford if you’re not driving yourself.

Where to Stay in Gilford, NH

  • Misty Harbor Resort – I’ve stayed here with family and loved it. You’ll have beach access, an indoor pool, and space to relax—it’s great for couples or families alike.
  • Gunstock Inn & Resort – I cozy up here in winter. You’ll appreciate the rustic lodge feel and being just minutes from the slopes.
  • Fireside Inn & Suites – When I want to be close to both the lake and the Bank of NH Pavilion, this is my pick. You’ll get comfort and location wrapped into one.
