Reconciliation Park is an important site to visit if you want to better understand Mankato and Minnesotan history. It became the largest mass hanging site in the United States on December 26th, 1862, when 38 Dakota Indian men were simultaneously hung for attacking settlers in New Ulm. There are various statues and historical markers on the site for you to contemplate and better understand this event in Mankato’s history.
