The 1045 acre Oregon Ridge Park was established in 1969 on land owned by John Merryman in the 1800s. Iron ore and marble were discovered in the area in the 1830s and there are several disused quarries in the park. One of them has filled with water and is used as a swimming hole. Downhill skiing was popular in the park in the 1960s but due to warmer temperatures snow manufacturing is no longer viable. The main slope is used as seating for outdoor events. Cross country skiing and sledding are still possible. On the 4th July each year, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra performs in the park.
