Looking for a peaceful Chesapeake Bay getaway near Annapolis? I think you’ll love Edgewater, Maryland! When I want to escape the crowds and slow things down, this is where I go. You’ll find quiet charm, scenic waterfront views, and plenty of outdoor adventures. Whether you’re into boating, local history, or fresh seafood, Edgewater has it all, with that easygoing, small-town feel just minutes from the heart of Annapolis.
Best Time to Visit
I’ve found the best time to visit Edgewater is from late spring through early fall, especially between May and October. If you’re like me and love being out on the water or dining by the shore, this is when Edgewater really shines. Warm weather means perfect days for boating, kayaking, or just lingering over lunch at a waterfront restaurant. I’ve spent entire afternoons here without checking the clock once.
How I Get to Edgewater (And How You Can Too)
- By Car: I usually drive in via US-50 and MD-2—it’s a quick 15 minutes south of Annapolis and just about 45 minutes from either D.C. or Baltimore. Super easy for a spontaneous day trip or weekend escape.
- By Air: When I’m flying in, I use Baltimore/Washington International (BWI). It’s around 30 miles away and makes for a smooth trip into the area.
- By Boat: If you’re arriving by water, you’ll love the marina access along the South River. I’ve docked here a few times while exploring the Chesapeake Bay—it’s a great way to experience the region.
Where I Recommend Staying in Edgewater
- Anchored Inn at Hidden Harbour – If you’re like me and love waking up to water views, this spot is a gem. It’s peaceful, tucked away, and right on the marina—perfect for a relaxing stay in Edgewater.
- The Westin Annapolis – When I want a touch of luxury and quick access to both downtown Annapolis and Edgewater, I stay here. The rooms are sleek, the service is top-notch, and it’s a great base for exploring the area.
- Historic Inns of Annapolis – If you’re into charm and history, I think you’ll love these boutique inns. I’ve stayed in one of their restored buildings and felt like I was stepping back in time—in the best way.
