Review:
Another South Berwick historic gem, the Sarah Orne Jewett House was declared a national historic Landmark in 1887. Originally the home of her grandparents, the house was the birthplace of Sarah Orne Jewett, and was where she and her family lived for several years. If you are unfamiliar with this flamboyant writer, who appears to have carved out a life of artistic freedom in the midst of the straight-laced Victorian era, you will love touring this property and learning its secrets. The Greek Revival House next door is where Sarah later lived with her parents and is now used as a Visitor’s Center.
