If you’re looking for Southern hospitality, riverside fun, and a little casino excitement, I say head to Bossier City, Louisiana. I spent a weekend there and found the perfect blend of entertainment and charm. You’ll be right across the Red River from Shreveport, and whether you're there for the gaming, the shopping, or just to soak in some Cajun flavor, I think you'll have a blast. I did!

Bossier City, LA Highlights:

  • For Gamblers: Hit the slots at Margaritaville Resort Casino – I tried my luck at the slots and ended up spending the afternoon between the tables, the rooftop pool, and the spa. If you like a full-service resort with great energy, you’ll love this one.
  • For Shoppers: Explore Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets – I walked along the Red River with a coffee in hand, popping into shops and catching the river breeze. You’ll enjoy the outlet deals and the views—plus there are plenty of places to grab lunch along the way.
  • For History Buffs: Visit the 8th Air Force Museum – I didn’t expect to be so moved, but walking through the museum at Barksdale Air Force Base really gave me a new appreciation for aviation history. Just remember to bring your ID to get in!

I’ve visited in both spring and fall, and those were the best times in my opinion. The weather was just right for walking along the river or attending local festivals. Summers get hot and sticky, so I spent more time indoors when I visited in July. Winters are mild though, and you’ll enjoy shorter lines and peaceful streets if you're looking for a quieter getaway.
