Review & FAQ:
Orto Botanico di Pisa is the world’s first university sponsored botanical garden, founded in 1543. Although it began on the Arno River banks, it was moved nearly 50 years later to its present location in 1591. Visitors will find plants from five continents on the seven-acre garden. Ancient trees, Tuscan swamp species, American and African desert succulents, and aromatic Mediterranean plants are all represented here. The Botanical Museum showcases 17th-century portraits of famous botanists, wax and plaster botanical models, water-based didactic tables, botany tools, paleobotany collections, and herbs, plus a closet of seeds representing the botanical garden are all here.
