Named for the Blue Grass Creek which lies to the east of the property, the Blue Grass Fish and Wildlife Area has given new life and purpose to a former strip mine. The area was completely denatured during the 20-year strip mining period from 1973 to 1993 and much of the vegetation you see today has been carefully re-established to provide a natural habitat for various species of wildlife. Fishing and hunting permits assure the continued preservation of the area. There are multiple pits with boat ramps for fishing and bass, crappie and catfish are regularly caught. The area attracts a wide variety of bird species which can be observed all over the preserve.
