More Ideas: Aerie’s Resort
Aerie’s Resort is located in the St. Louis metro area of Grafton, Illinois, where the Illinois and the Mississippi Rivers meet. The area has been called “The Best View in the Midwest,” which the resort takes advantage of by offering 360-degree views in many of their accommodations and facilities. Guests can choose from different rooms, suites, and cottages, dine, and enjoy live entertainment at the winery, or brave the two-mile zipline. The Terrace also offers the perfect venue for many different types of special events, including weddings and family reunions.
Accommodations at Aerie’s Resort are found in terrace rooms, suites, hilltop, valley, and deluxe cottages, villas, The Lodge, and The Landing. There are 43 available accommodations at the resort.
Standard accommodations are found in the terrace rooms. Each room comes with either one king size bed or two queen size beds. They also feature a choice of a walk-in shower or a jetted bathtub. All rooms come with a kitchenette providing a mini refrigerator and microwave, as well as a two-cup coffee maker. Rooms also have shared patios with seating areas. There are 24 available, on three floors of the southwestern side of the resort’s banquet center.
Suites are available for a slightly upgraded overnight experience. Suites offer king size beds, jetted bathtubs, and a spacious combined living and dining room with a cafe table and a large sofa. These accommodations also have kitchenettes featuring a full-size microwave and refrigerator, as well as the standard two cup coffee maker. They each have their private balcony as well. There are six suites available on multiple floors.
For even more private accommodations, guests can select from either the hilltop or valley cottages. There are 3 of the valley cottages and 5 of the hilltop cottages available for overnight stays. Both sets of cottages offer one bedroom with a queen size bed and jetted bathtubs in the bathroom. They also each come with a small electric grill, mini refrigerator, microwave, and two cup coffee maker. Each cottage has a private deck overlooking either the river or the valley. Guests should be advised that the valley cottages are not located within walking distance of any of the resort’s on-site facilities, and do not offer wireless internet access.
The most upscale of the cottages available is the deluxe cottage, which is on the ridge’s valley side and offers an outdoor deck and patio that looks out into the woods. This cottage has one bedroom with a king size bed, a jetted bathtub, and an elegant interior. It also features a small electric grill, microwave, mini refrigerator, and standard two cup coffee maker. Wireless internet connectivity is limited and not guaranteed. Availability for this cottage can be extremely limited and requires a two-night minimum reservation.
Larger groups, like families or multiple couples vacationing together, should select one of the resort’s five available villas. Each villa consists of three private units with separate keyed entries that share a single entrance. These villas are not located within walking distance of the resort’s facilities. Each unit in the villa has a queen size bed, a walkout balcony, a private bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a common area that contains a full kitchen complete with dining room table, flatware and dishes, and a microwave, stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher. Villas do not have wireless internet access.
For even larger groups, like family reunions and wedding parties, the area above the Lodge offers four guest rooms that share a large, common area that includes a full kitchen and a separate living and dining room. The common area also includes large decks in both the front and the back. Each of the rooms has its own, separately keyed entrance and its own, private bathroom with a jetted bathtub. They also have a queen size bed with an additional pull out sleeper sofa.
The final accommodation option at Aerie’s Resort is a room in The Landing. All six of these rooms were designed to have as homelike of an atmosphere as possible and were meant for extended stays. Each has a king size bed and kitchen area that comes stocked with a ten-cup coffee maker, an electric stove, microwave, refrigerator, and toaster. Each of these rooms also has a television and a shower/bathtub combination.
Aerie’s Resort is non-smoking and does not allow pets.
The majority of accommodations at the resort offer guests free wireless internet access. The registration desk will provide login information on request. However, guests should be aware that connectivity can be limited and is coverage is not guaranteed.
All accommodations come with complimentary bath towels, shampoos, conditioners, and body soap.
Free parking is available at the resort, and there is a free shuttle available to take guests to the various on-site facilities as well as into the city of Grafton.
Housekeeping is available on request.
Part of the allure of a stay at Aerie’s Resort is the attached winery. The winery also features a full, dining menu that offers flatbreads, shareable small plates, and daily specials. Guests can dine “al fresco” on the winery’s large deck or inside in the air-conditioned dining area. The downstairs portion of the winery also functions as a beer garden, which provides guests with frequent, live entertainment. Guests dining or visiting with small children will also enjoy a table under the kid-friendly tent and patio.
The dining menu at the winery is expansive. The culinary staff makes all of the sauce and dough for the flatbreads fresh daily, as well as serving unique small plates like drunken mussels and hummus du jour, sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, and desserts. On weekends, the winery also serves traditional breakfast options including omelets, french toast, and biscuits and gravy. Specials change daily and include pork chops, steaks, and seafood options.
Guests can also purchase bottles of wine to take home with them after their visit to Aerie’s Resort.
Live entertainment is provided on weekends from May through October (weather dependent) and is mainly local acoustic artists. The calendar on the website is frequently updated.
The resort also has its, which flies resort guests through the woods. Reservations are strongly urged in advance and can be made online. Each guest must sign waivers before riding the zip line. Zipline tours are offered seven days a week, and large groups can be accommodated.

More Ideas: Quail Creek Country Club and Resort
Quail Creek Country Club and Resort is located in Robinson, Illinois, which is on the southeastern end of the state. The resort is available to anyone, not just golfers who come to use the 18-hole PGA rated championship course. There are multiple amenities available, including two restaurants that provide room service, an outdoor pool, and a pro shop. The resort also hosts numerous special events throughout the year.
The resort at Quail Creek offers overnight accommodations to all guests, not just those who are staying at the country club to golf. There are 34 different overnight rooms and suites available, each designed to provide optimal comfort and views of the resort grounds.
Rooms are offered according to the bed configuration that each resort guest is looking for - king size, single, and two options for double accommodations (two full-size beds or two full-size beds). Each room comes with its own private bathroom. Additional rollaway beds, as well as cribs, can be requested.
Suites are also available, which provide guests with a larger space that includes sitting areas and a small kitchenette. Each of the suites has a king size bed and its own private bathroom as well. These suites book quicker than the rooms and are often more difficult to reserve.
Packages that include overnight accommodations and golfing are available.
All rooms and suites at Quail Creek are non-smoking.
Free wireless internet access is provided to all resort guests. All rooms also come with their own mini refrigerators and microwaves, televisions with local cable access, and telephones with voicemail. Daily housekeeping services are provided for all rooms and suites, and complimentary coffee is provided as well.
The resort features a large outdoor pool and attached facilities for changing and showering (towels are provided), as well as tennis and racquetball courts and a lake fishing area (that is stocked for catch and release) for additional recreation options.
The highlight of a visit to Quail Creek, for most guests, is the golf course.
The course is an official PGA rated championship course and features 18 holes at a par 72. It was built in 1919 using bentgrass greens and Bermuda grass fairways and is 6,602 yards total. The course has a slope of 128. There are multiple water hazards and sand traps, making for a fun yet challenging experience for all levels of golfer.
The course also features a pro shop, which offers a large selection of top rated apparel and equipment for sale. Golfers can also contact the staff at the shop to book private golfing lessons or to arrange for a tee time.
There is also a full-service practice facility on the course. It was designed to help golfers with their short game and has both a chipping and a putting green area. Golfers looking for help with their long game can also use the driving range. PGA staff are on-site as well to provide lessons or answer any questions that may come up.
Guests to the resort and golf course can enjoy a meal at Llamas on the Green. The menu includes many different fast, casual traditional American options like appetizers, steak burgers, wraps, and a salad bar. Llamas also serves up breakfast most mornings, which includes pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and fresh fruit.
Another option at the resort is Beman’s Bar. The bar also serves up casual dining options, and guests can also enjoy a cold beer or cocktail after a long game of golf. Beman’s frequently offers specials on both food and cocktails.
Room service from either of these restaurants is available for overnight guests as well and can be ordered by calling the front desk staff.
There are multiple special golf events held throughout the year, and visitors to the country club and resort can also plan their own. Every special event package includes range balls, use of a golf cart, and all green fees. On request, guests can have customized scorecards, cart signage, and rule sheets made up as well. Special events can accommodate anywhere from just a few to up to a hundred people at a time.
Weddings and other non-golf related special events can also be held at the resort. Due to its large banquet facility and attached conference center, the resort can host large special events of up to a few hundred people at a time. Full banquet menus are catered to each event’s individual budget.
Many weekends at the resort also feature a variety of live entertainment options, from 90s music to acoustic and even touring musicians that perform right on the green. Most events are free for resort guests.
A full calendar of all events is available on the website and is frequently updated.
