Ivanpah Dry Lake is a 13 square-mile dry lake bed in the Mojave Desert. Although most of the lake lies in California, it is easily accessed from Primm in Nevada. The lake offers an outdoor recreational area which is very popular with kite-buggy and land-sailing enthusiasts, who come from near and far to enjoy perfect conditions for wind-powered crafts. Interestingly, this is where the 2009 World Land Speed Record was established by the wind-powered Greenbird, which clocked up an amazing 121.6 mph record. The lake also offers limited hiking and picnicking but the high desert temperatures mean that these activities are somewhat restricted and temperature dependant.
