Review:
The Old Town of Southampton is protected by ancient 12th century stone walls, which are among the best-preserved medieval town walls in the country. Just over a mile in length, the medieval defenses were built when Southampton was relocated in the 10th century and feature no less than 29 towers and eight gates. Visitors can explore the - the third-longest unbroken stretch of city wall in Britain on a walking tour which passes Bargate Street, Town Quay, Back of the Walls, and the Western Esplanade. Notable sights along the way include the Wind Whistle Tower, St. Michael's on Castle Way – the only remaining medieval church in Southampton, and Mayflower Park.
