Review:
Sleeping Bear Dunes-Platte River Campground is located at the site of a prominent archaeological site within the gorgeous Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, named as America's most beautiful place by Good Morning America. The campsite area protects a major indigenous site dating back as far as 130 A.D., used by local indigenous groups during the Middle and Late Woodland periods. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the campground area served as the site of the logging community of Edgewater. Today, it extends 300 meters along the banks of the Platte River near the city of Empire, overseen as part of the lakeshore's public recreational area. It is open to the public year-round for overnight camping, offering tent and RV campsites, including group campsites accommodating up to 25 guests. A backcountry campground is also offered nearby for primitive campground experiences.
