Every city in the world is made up of a collection of distinct neighborhoods, each with their own flair and unique personalities. The Antigone neighborhood in Montpellier is one of the most famous in the city, and it is known for the unique architecture that fills the district. Antigone was once largely consumed by army barracks, but in the 1980s, an architect named Ricardo Bofill took on the district and redesigned it from top to bottom, using neoclassical Greek architecture as his inspiration. The result is a number of sweeping, uniquely shaped buildings with larger than life architectural features. Exploring Antigone means checking out the Polygone shopping center, and wandering the squares and circular promenades to find boutiques and restaurants.
