In the early 1900s, a cluster of rustic cottages inspired Elizabeth Ludwig, a Nantucket resident, to form a hotel. Now, the White Elephant, which many saw as her folly, is among the finest luxury hotels in Nantucket. The waterfront resort has rooms, suites and cottages available for hire.
