Established around what was once the largest haieu (place of worship) in Polynesia, Kahanu Garden started to take shape in 1952. Today the garden covers over 290 acres, including unique and amazing collections like the Mary Wishard Coconut Grove which is home to more than 20 different species of coconut trees and a huge collection of Breadfruit trees. Today the garden showcases a treasure-trove of plants endemic to Hawaii, as well as other cultivars from the greater Pacific region. Visitors are invited to join a guided tour of the garden where they will learn about the cultural importance of many of the plants to the local population.
