Wailuku River State Park is a state park that is accessed off Waianuenue Avenue in downtown Hilo and features two popular attractions - Boiling Pots and Rainbow Falls.
Boiling Pots is an area with several big pools lined with exposed hexagonal columns that were formed by the slow cooling of basalt lava and which are connected by underground cascades whose waters bubbles and roll over the rocks as if boiling.
The Rainbow Falls is a spectacular 80-foot cascade that famous for the rainbows formed on misty mornings and the legend that the cave beneath the waterfall was the home of Hina, an ancient Hawaiian goddess and mother of the demigod Maui.
