The historic Hargray Capitol Theatre first opened to the public in 1916. At that time it was a lavish movie house with leather seats and a gold-fiber screen (to combat the old-style screens which often flickered erratically). However, by 1976 the grand old dame closed her doors and was abandoned for 30 years. Fortunately, the beautiful old theater was painstakingly restored to its former glory in the early 2000’s. Today the theatre can seat up to 650 patrons and hosts a full calendar of live performances. If you need a meal before or after the show, visit The Rookery, which serves delicious burgers, acclaimed onion rings and fries, milkshakes, craft beers and much more.
