Lafayette Square is a pretty, shaded square located at Abercorn and East Macon Streets. The square was laid out in 1837 and is home to the elaborate, twin-spired Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, which was built over four years between 1872 and 1876. At the center of the square you will find a large fountain which was presented to the city by the Colonial Dames of America to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of Savannah. Other notable landmarks on the square include the stately Hamilton Turner House (1873) which now operates as a luxury boutique hotel, and the Andrew Low House (1849) which is a museum and is open to the public.
