Review:
Chinsegut Hill Museum, also referred to as the Chinsegut Hill Manor House, is an historic living history museum site located just north of Brooksville atop nearby Chinsegut Hill. The estate, which is also referred to as Mount Airy and The Hill, was originally developed in the 1840s on 160 acres by Colonel Byrd Pearson and constructed in its present manor house form in 1854 by Colonel Russel Snow. Several owners throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries made substantial expansions to the estate prior to its sale to the University of Florida in the mid-2oth century as a branch library. In 2008, the home was transferred to the care of the Friends of Chinsegut Hill association for extensive renovation and conversion to its present museum state. Guided tours of the home are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays Thursdays, and Saturdays, showcasing its rich history, including its involvement in the 1959 Red Scare and its lineage of hosting famed international luminaries such as Thomas Edison.
