Take a trip through the heavens at the McDonald Observatory. The McDonald Observatory is part of the research department of the University of Texas. The dark night skies of Western Texas make this a perfect location for studying space phenomena. The observatory contains a variety of large telescopes, including the Hobby-Eberly, one of the largest telescopes in the world.

The McDonald is dedicated to public outreach and education, and it provides daytime tours of the telescopes, star parties, and special nighttime viewing events. The observatory's visitors center is open daily except for major holidays. Dates and times of special events vary.
