Located just 30 miles from Manhattan, Stamford has been, since 19th century, a quiet, green, upscale space where New Yorkers built summer homes on the shore. Some New Yorkers still doing that today, but other people live in Stamford and commute to New York City, or are work in one of four Fortune 500 Companies or nine Fortune 1000 Companies that moved to Stamford.

The city has its own personality and rich cultural life, with the popular Stamford Museum and Nature Center, the Stamford Observatory, the beautiful 91-acre Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens and the Orchestra Lumos which performs at the Palace Theatre.
