Campbell Falls State Park was developed in 1923 in cooperation between Massachusetts and Connecticut in order to protect the magnificent fall and the surrounding forest.

Before entering Connecticut, the Whitney River drops almost 100 feet within the park. The river winds through a narrow gorge changing the direction of the flow twice, zigzagging to the left first and then to the right.

This rugged form of waterfall is not common in New England. It is magnificent any time of the year, but more so in the early spring, when the snow is melting.

The view is awe-inspiring, and it takes visitors by surprise as the surrounding forest grows on the gentle terrain. The park is left in its natural state and there are no facilities for visitors.
