Romantic Weekend Getaways in Connecticut

Scenic countryside, historic towns, and seaside views make Connecticut a perfect hideaway for couples looking to reconnect. After days of rushing between work and errands, stepping into the Nutmeg State’s slower rhythm felt like the reset we needed. From intimate dinners at historic inns to walks along the shoreline, Connecticut offers countless ways to spark romance.
One of the best parts is discovering the ideal retreat, whether it’s a waterfront inn, a rustic countryside B&B, or a luxurious boutique hotel, to set the mood for a relaxing and intimate escape. Here are some unique accommodations I came across while living here that I think you’ll love for your Connecticut adventures as well.

1. For a stylish escape: Delamar Southport
Delamar Southport in Connecticut is one of my favorite boutique getaway in New England. It’s the perfect spot for a quick romantic weekend getaway.
Just an hour from New York City, this elegant hotel feels like a hidden escape, offering luxury, comfort, and warm hospitality all wrapped into one. What I loved most about Delamar Southport is its sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere.
The design blends classic New England charm with European-inspired touches like cozy fireplaces, rich fabrics, curated artwork, and a timeless elegance that makes every corner feel special.
My room for two days was spacious and beautifully decorated, with a plush bed, marble bathroom, and thoughtful details like fresh flowers and Molton Brown bath products.
My favorite feature was the sense of calm it offered...it felt like a serene sanctuary away from the bustle.
The hotel’s spa was another highlight for me and getting a 60-minute massage was the perfect start to my vacation. Dining at Artisan, the on-site restaurant, was equally memorable.
With a menu focused on fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients, every meal felt like an experience, especially when paired with a glass of wine in the garden terrace.
I loved exploring local attractions like Sherwood Island State Park, and Westport Museum for History and Culture.
To me, Delamar Southport is one of the best underrated luxury escapes in Connecticut. Romantic, refined, and deeply relaxing, it’s a true gem for anyone seeking a memorable New England getaway.

2. For a countryside escape: Winvian Farm
I absolutely loved this whimsical luxury escape tucked away in the rolling hills of Litchfield County. I thought that Winvian Farm was one of the best romantic weekend getaways in Connecticut when I moved to the East Coast. It truly is unlike anywhere else.
I drove about two hours northeast from New York City into the Litchfield Hills of Connecticut, where winding backroads passed stone walls, forested ridges, and quiet villages.
We stayed in one of the most beautiful cottages, a standalone space surrounded by trees, where the only sounds were wind through the leaves and the creak of old floorboards under our socks. Winvian felt like a retreat. Every corner invited rest: a soaking tub, a leather chair by the fire, a porch with a view of the woods.
The serene spa with treatment rooms set in the woods was a personal highlight. I recommend splurging on a 60-minute massage to jumpstart your weekend. I thought the outdoor pool was perfect for lazy afternoons, and loved how cozy common spaces that felt more like a friend’s country estate than a hotel.
You can trust that this place is special, serves incredible food, and luxurious because it has earned two AAA Five Diamond Awards (one for the property, one for the restaurant).
