Covering a massive 1.86 million acres of land in south-central Colorado, the Rio Grande National Forest is located near Pagosa Springs and Creede. The forest is one of the most secluded in the state and offers nature lovers the opportunity to enjoy some solitude within a pristine and less-explored area of the Rocky Mountains. There is plenty of space for visitors to enjoy and you will often have your trails entirely to yourself. There are great opportunities for primitive camping, but remember that you will need to bring everything you need with you and pack it all out when you leave. Scenic drives, boating, hiking, biking and horseback riding are the most popular activities in the forest.
