Sucrerie de la Montagne (aka Sugar Shack) provides visitors with a deliciously different idea for a day trip from Montreal. This intriguing heritage site is located at the top of Mont Rigaud, where it is surrounded by a 120-acre forest of maple trees which are at least a hundred years old. You can visit Sucrerie de la Montagne all year round, but will only be able to witness the traditional tree tapping and maple syrup production process if you come during the “Sugaring Off Season”, from February to May. You can buy all your favorite maple products at the shop and an on-site restaurant specializing in traditional Quebec game dishes is open (by reservation only) on weekends.
