When I was looking for a wine country getaway that didn’t feel too far from the Bay, I found it in Fairfield—and I think you’ll enjoy it just as much. Right between San Francisco and Sacramento, Fairfield gave me a taste of vineyards, trails, and family-friendly fun without the crowds. Whether you’re planning a quick day trip or a relaxed weekend, this Solano County gem is easy to reach and surprisingly full of charm.
When I Think You Should Visit
I’d suggest visiting from March to October, especially if you want warm weather for winery visits, hiking, or catching local festivals. I went in early summer once—there were wildflowers everywhere, and the outdoor events gave it a fun, local vibe.
How I Got There (And How You Can Too)
- By car: I’ve driven in from both San Francisco and Sacramento—it’s about 45 minutes either way along I-80, making it super convenient for a day trip or weekend getaway.
- By air: I’ve flown into Oakland (OAK) and SFO before—each is under an hour away. Sacramento International (SMF) is another solid option if you're coming from the east.
- By train: I once took the Capitol Corridor Amtrak to the nearby Suisun-Fairfield Station—it was smooth and scenic, and a nice break from driving.
Where I Stayed (And Think You’ll Like Too)
- Staybridge Suites Fairfield Napa Valley Area: I stayed here when I wanted extra space and a full kitchen—it was perfect for longer stays or just feeling a bit more at home. Great location if you plan to explore Napa too.
- Hilton Garden Inn Fairfield: This one worked well when I wanted something comfortable and close to shopping and restaurants. It’s modern, clean, and easy to get around from there.
- Courtyard by Marriott Fairfield Napa Valley Area: I liked the convenience here—modern rooms, helpful staff, and amenities like a fitness center and bistro for quick meals. Great base for exploring the area.
