A registered National History Landmark, Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate is located in the heart of the Bluegrass region. Ashland was a 600-acre plantation where enslaved people labored both inside the mansion and on the farm. Visitors can learn about this dark past of Ashland on the "Traces: Slavery at Ashland" tour.
Henry Clay, a 19th-century Kentucky statesman, lived with his family on the Lexington estate until his death in 1852. Visitors can explore the mansion and and the surrounding lands. Tours of the mansion show the Federal style house, including the Italianate details added in later renovations.
In addition to the stunning architecture, visitors will also gain a comprehensive understanding of Henry Clay and his legendary history as a statesman. There are many events held here throughout the year, especially during the holiday season, including the Candlelight Tour at Ashland.
