500 million years ago, an ocean stood where the current Split Rock resort is. 200 million years later, glaciers crept across the ocean and created what is known as Lake Harmony. This also created an immense section of split rock, which is what influenced the resort’s name.

Flash forward to 1941, Robert V. White designed and constructed Split Rock’s original lodge, which was created with the intent to be a retreat for hunters and vacationers. Five years later, White created trails throughout a mountain that was close to his lodge. This created the mountain trails known as Big Boulder, and made his original lodge become the Pocono’s first ski resort.

Unfortunately, in 1970, a fire destroyed the original lodge. With a love for the lodge and ski resort, local cottage owners came together and created the Pocono Recreation Inc. The Pocono Recreation Inc. tackled the reconstruction and expansion of the original lodge. Eleven years later, Jack and Barbara Kalins company, Vacation Charters Ltd., purchased the property. Under new ownership, the property expanded to include attractions such as the Westwood Villas, Split Rock Golf Course, and Town Center.
