Looking for an artsy, outdoorsy, and laid-back Midwest escape? I absolutely loved my visit to Stevens Point! Tucked along the scenic Wisconsin River, this friendly college town surprised me with its blend of nature, creativity, and welcoming community vibes. Whether I was biking the Green Circle Trail or enjoying a flight at a local brewery, I found Stevens Point to be a peaceful and fun place to recharge.
Best Time to Visit
Personally, I think the best time to visit Stevens Point is between May and October. I went in early fall, and the changing leaves along the river were absolutely stunning. That said, summer is great for kayaking, hiking, and outdoor festivals, while winter turns the town into a snowy playground with cross-country skiing and cozy local cafes to warm up in afterward.
How to Get There
- By Car: Driving in was easy—Stevens Point is just off I-39 and U.S. Route 10. It’s about a 2-hour drive from Madison or 2.5 hours from Milwaukee. I made a scenic pit stop along the way and enjoyed the relaxed pace of the drive.
- By Air: I flew into Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA) in Mosinee. It’s a small regional airport about 25 minutes from town, which made getting in and out a breeze.
- By Bus: If you’re not driving, services like Jefferson Lines and Lamers make it easy to connect to other parts of Wisconsin.
Where to Stay
- Holiday Inn Stevens Point – I stayed here on a family trip and loved the on-site water park—it was a hit with the kids. It’s also attached to a conference center, so it’s a good option for both work and play.
- Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott – If you're after something modern and comfortable, this hotel is a great pick. I found it super clean, quiet, and well-located for exploring the town.
- Dreams of Yesteryear Bed & Breakfast – For a more romantic or historic stay, this Victorian B&B was charming. I stopped by for a look and was enchanted by the period décor and peaceful atmosphere. Definitely one to consider if you like a personal touch and homemade breakfast.
