I’m always looking for that perfect lakeside escape—and you’ll find it in Minocqua. I go there for the Northwoods charm and you’ll love the glassy, clear lakes. You might paddle at sunrise or hike a quiet trail, while I’m warming by the fire with coffee. Whether you come for snowmobiling or a lazy summer float, I’ve found it’s a year-round treasure you won’t regret visiting.
Best Time to Visit
I usually plan trips from late spring through fall—and you should too if you want to fish, kayak, or hike under sunny skies. But I’ve also bundled up in winter, and you’ll find it just as magical for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, or ice fishing in December through February.
How to Get There
- By Car: I drive north from Madison in about 3 hours, and you can make it from Milwaukee or Minneapolis in around 4.5 via US-51 and WI-70.
- By Plane: When I want to fly, I use Rhinelander–Oneida County Airport (RHI)—you’re only 45 minutes away from Minocqua once you land.
- By Bus: I’ve checked seasonal routes with Northwoods Transit, but I always tell friends to drive if they can—it gives you freedom to explore.
Where to Stay
- The Waters of Minocqua – I stay here when I want rustic style and a splash of fun—your kids (or your inner child) will love the indoor water park.
- Thayer's Inn – If you’re craving vintage lakeside vibes, I say book a cozy cabin here. You’ll be near downtown shops too.
- Best Western Plus Concord Inn – I’ve picked this one for convenience, and you’ll enjoy the pool and hot tub after a day outside. It’s an easy stroll to everything in town.
