Lansing is a small community in Fayette County, West Virginia, along U.S. Route 19, less than three miles from Fayetteville. It is the jump-off spot for exploring the magnificent New River Gorge and the surrounding area. Canyon Rim Visitor Center near Lansing provides information about the New River Gorge and its natural, cultural, recreational, and historic values. New and Gauley River Adventures is a small Lansing rafting adventure company that organizes adventures on the New and Gauley Rivers. Treetops Canopy Tour offers a different view of the forest surrounding the gorge, with 10 ziplines and five sky bridges. Fayette Station Road is one hundred year-old road that goes to the bottom of the New River Gorge, across a narrow bridge, and up the other side of the river. It was once surrounded by 13 thriving coal mining communities.
