Overlooking the Potomac River, at the border of its own municipal park, stands the James Rumsey Monument and Park. The monument, and the surrounding park of the same name, were constructed in 1915 and stand at a height of 75 feet. The monument is dedicated to its namesake, James Rumsey, who is credited for being the pioneer of the very first steamboat. The steamboat was pioneered right on the Potomac, making the monument and park’s current location very special indeed. At the James Rumsey Monument and Park, visitors can see and admire the monument before setting off to hike along one of the several trails in the park. There are also great playgrounds to enjoy and public exercise equipment for free use.
