The Von Braun Astronomical Society is a non-profit volunteer organization that operates a library, two observatories, and a planetarium in Monte Sano State Park. Formed by a group of Huntsville high-school students who wanted to study astronomy, the organization expanded in 1954 when a handful of Red Stone Arsenal scientists, including Dr. Wernher von Braun, joined the effort.
