Looking for a peaceful valley retreat surrounded by orchards and mountains? I found exactly that in Peshastin, and I think you’ll love it too. Tucked into the Cascade foothills, this little town is the kind of place where you slow down, breathe in fresh mountain air, and enjoy the simple things—fruit stands, river views, and nearby trails. Whether you’re exploring Leavenworth or just soaking up the calm, Peshastin makes a perfect base for your Central Washington adventure.

Best Time to Visit

I’ve visited from spring through fall, and every season has its charm. In spring, the wildflowers start blooming and everything feels fresh. Summer is ideal if you’re into hiking or want to visit u-pick orchards—I always grab cherries and fresh cider. Fall is probably my favorite with crisp air, golden leaves, and apple harvests. Winter’s quieter, but if you like snowshoeing or nearby skiing, it’s a peaceful escape.

How to Get There

  • If you are traveling by car: I usually drive in along U.S. Route 2—it’s such a scenic ride, especially coming from Seattle. Peshastin is just 30 minutes from Wenatchee and about 2.5 hours from Seattle, so it’s easy to reach for a weekend trip.
  • By Air: I’ve flown into Pangborn Memorial Airport (EAT) in Wenatchee before—it’s only about 35 minutes away. Super convenient if you’re coming from farther out.
  • By Train: Amtrak’s Empire Builder stops in Leavenworth, just 10 minutes away. I’ve taken this line from Seattle—it’s such a scenic journey, especially in fall or winter.

Where to Stay

  • Wedge Mountain Inn – I stayed here for a quick weekend and loved how close it was to everything. It’s simple, clean, and the mountain views are a lovely bonus.
  • Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort (Leavenworth) – If you’re in the mood for something special, this eco-lodge is the one. I’ve spent evenings walking the art trail and dining on local fare—it’s peaceful and full of character.
  • Bavarian Lodge (Leavenworth) – I’ve stayed here when I wanted to be closer to the action in Leavenworth. It has that European feel and is right in the middle of all the shops and trails. Perfect for a festive visit.

Must-see if you are a first-time visitor:

  • Peshastin Pinnacles State Park – I hiked here my first morning in town and couldn’t believe the views. The sandstone spires are stunning, and the trail is short but packed with scenery.
  • Smallwood's Harvest – If you’re traveling with kids—or just love a good farmstand—this is a must. I always leave with fresh produce, a few gifts, and a smile on my face.
  • Icicle Creek Trail – This is one of my favorite nearby hikes. You’ll follow the creek through a forest of pines and granite peaks—it’s as relaxing as it is beautiful.
  • Wenatchee River – I’ve gone rafting and fly fishing here, and each time it feels like a new adventure. Even just sitting on the bank with a picnic is worth the stop.
  • Local Orchards & Fruit Stands – You can’t come to Peshastin without grabbing something fresh off the tree. I always pull over for apples, cherries, or cider—there’s nothing quite like it.
