If you’re dreaming of a quiet island retreat wrapped in natural beauty and local charm, I highly recommend heading to Eastsound. I fell in love with this peaceful village on Orcas Island—where waterfront views, fresh seafood, and friendly shops made me feel instantly at ease. Whether you're planning to kayak at sunrise, browse local art, or simply sip coffee by the bay, Eastsound delivers that magical Pacific Northwest vibe I can’t get enough of.
Best Time to Visit
Personally, I think the sweet spot is May through September. That’s when I enjoyed sunny skies, calm waters, and mild temps perfect for getting outdoors. You’ll find it’s ideal for hiking, whale watching, and lingering through farmers markets or art fairs. I’ve gone in early fall too—it’s still gorgeous, just with a bit more quiet.
How to Get There
- If you are traveling by car and ferry: I usually drive to Anacortes and take the Washington State Ferry. You’ll love the ride—watch for seals and bald eagles! Once on Orcas Island, it’s a 15-minute scenic drive to Eastsound.
- By Plane: I’ve flown into Orcas Island Airport (ORS) from Seattle before—it’s quick and convenient. Or, if you want a bit of adventure, chartering a seaplane is unforgettable. You’ll land right on the water!
- By Shuttle: If you're traveling light, I’d suggest the shuttle from Seattle to Anacortes. It lines up with ferry times and makes the whole trip easy and stress-free.
Where to Stay
- Outlook Inn on Orcas Island – I stayed here on my first visit and it was everything I hoped for. You’ll get stunning bay views, beautifully designed rooms, and their restaurant? Absolutely worth booking a table.
- Orcas Hotel – I’ve also stayed at this charming Victorian spot near the ferry. You’ll love its cozy rooms, fresh pastries, and porch views of the harbor—it feels like stepping back in time, in the best way.
