The 45-mile trail traverses the old Washington and Old Dominion Trail and is known as the skinniest park in Virginia, spanning a mere 100 feet wide. The asphalt trail belongs to the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park and visitors use the trail for walking, running, cycling and skating from dawn to dusk. The surrounding parklands are kept in a primarily natural state, with areas of the trail passing through local communities., extending from Shirlington to Purcellville.
