Weekend Getaways for Couples

When it comes to weekend getaways for couples, I’ve found that the best trips strike the perfect balance between relaxation, connection, and a touch of adventure. Within just a few hours’ drive, you can escape the daily routine and immerse yourselves in charming small towns, scenic landscapes, or vibrant cultural hubs.
Choosing the right place to stay is key, and there are so many wonderful options, from romantic boutique hotels and charming bed-and-breakfasts to cozy cabins and luxurious resorts. Here are some memorable accommodations I think you’ll love for your next couple’s getaway.

1. River Terrace Inn in Napa
We drove about an hour north from San Francisco to Napa, where vineyard-covered hills and winding roads led me into California’s wine country.
River Terrace Inn brought us right to the edge of the Napa River, close enough to feel the stillness ripple through us.
River Terrace Inn in Napa is one of my favorite underrated escapes in Wine Country—perfect for a romantic getaway or a relaxing retreat with friends or family. This boutique-style retreat strikes the ideal balance between serene riverside charm and lively downtown convenience.
What captivates me most is the setting. Nestled along the Napa River and adjacent to a peaceful nature preserve, the inn offers a tranquil vibe—yet you're only a leisurely stroll away from the buzz of Oxbow Public Market, the Napa Valley Wine Train, Copia, and downtown's wine bars and shops.
The ambiance is casual luxury at its best. Think tasteful, earthy décor, tree-lined river paths, and cozy outdoor fire pits—not to mention the inviting riverfront terrace where I love sipping a glass of wine while soaking in the views.
Rooms are well-appointed and thoughtfully designed—spacious, comfortable, and for some with private balconies, whirlpool tubs, or riverview verandas. Hello, perfect evening unwind.
The in-house restaurant, ALBA Bar + Café, is another reason I adore staying here. It serves seasonal, shareable dishes paired with local wine or cocktails, and the ambiance—especially on the riverfront patio—is effortlessly romantic.
Some of my favorite extras: complimentary bike rentals, live music evenings, fitness center access, and even a thoughtful “go green” approach with Tesla charging stations—little touches that make a stay feel elevated.
For me, River Terrace Inn is a hidden gem in Napa Valley—a place where nature, thoughtful design, and convenience come together with charm and genuine warmth. Whether you're toasting a special occasion or seeking a weekend reset, it’s a place that always lingers in memory.
