The bell tower of Stift Wilten towers over the surrounding buildings. This grand abbey was originally founded all the way back in 878 AD, when it was a monastery. Through the centuries that followed, Wilten Abbey has changed and grown, with much of the current abbey having been built in the 12th century and the 17th/18th centuries. The baroque architecture and interior design is grand and beautiful, and contains many large and elaborate painted murals as well as other art. Tours, which are only available in German, must be pre-booked but anyone can see the abbey on their own.
