Imagine finding a Scottish Castle in the heart of Japan. Although this seems very unlikely, it is exactly what you will find when you take a day trip to Lockheart Castle, close to Numata.

The castle has a most interesting history – it was transported in its entirety from Scotland to Japan in 1988 via the Siberian railroad and rebuilt and restored in Japan. These days the castle houses a small but interesting museum that is well worth a visit.

The grounds of the castle are home to a Teddy Bear Museum and a small chapel where wedding ceremonies are performed. You will also find a tall tower; lovers like to climb to the top and ring the bell as this is thought to guarantee eternal love.
