Nira Caledonia is a splendid Georgian-style townhouse in Edinburgh’s New Town area that was once owned by famed 19th-century essayist Christopher North. Today, the property is operated as a bed and breakfast facility, offering individually-designed rooms and suites with luxury goose feather bedding, flat screen televisions, iPod docks, and Nespresso machines. Floor-to-ceiling windows, private living room areas, and whirlpool baths are also available in some suites. An onsite restaurant provides in-room breakfast and serves traditional fare and afternoon tea meals made from locally-sourced ingredients, and a bar stocks more than 25 Scotch whiskies. Vacationers interested in historic attractions, architecture, and local scenery will find much to explore nearby, including Edinburgh Castle, Charlotte Square, and the Princes Street Gardens.
