You can learn all about the turbulent history of the area at the Augusta Museum of History which focuses on all aspects of regional history including the railroad, healthcare and even banking. There are several well-preserved historic homes that you can visit including the Woodrow Wilson Boyhood Home (1859), Meadow Garden (1791) and the Ezekiel Harris House which dates back to the 1700's. The beautiful Augusta Downtown Historic District is home to dozens of buildings in many architectural styles, several of which are open to the public.
