Seneca Lake is remarkable for two reasons: It's the largest of the Finger Lakes, and it's the deepest lake in the state of New York.

It's also known as the "Lake Trout Capital of the World," and it hosts the National Lake Trout Derby at the beginning of every summer.

However, the lake has plenty to do even if you're not interested in fishing, including boating, swimming, and cycling along the 77-mile Seneca Lake Loop.

The area is also a highly regarded winemaking region, and more than 30 wineries are located along the shores of the lake.
