Camera Obscura in Greenport, New York is open to visitors weather permitting and by appointment on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The unique attraction features light entering the darkened room through a small opening. This results in a live picture being projected onto a screen. Located at Mitchell Park near the Marina in its own building, admission to the Camera Obscura of Long Island is by donation. There were once hundreds of camera obscuras in the world during the nineteenth century, but today, there are only around fifty. Only five of these still existing camera obscuras are located in the United States.
