Home to the Bayside Historical Society, Fort Totten Park’s Castle was built in 1887 and was first used as a mess hall by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The castle features Gothic Revival-style architecture and has formally been recognized by the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors to the Bayside Historical Society can tour the castle which has been lovingly restored by the historical community and can see long-term installations as well as changing exhibits that tell of the history of Queens. See galleries of photos dating back to the early 1900s, or get a close-up look at archaeological discoveries from the area by archaeologist Edward J. Platt.
