I think you’ll enjoy the suburban charm, local shopping, and coastal access in Commack, New York! When I want a peaceful spot that still keeps me close to the action, I head to Commack. You’ll find it tucked into Suffolk County on Long Island, and I love how quiet and family-friendly it feels—exactly the kind of place where you can unwind without feeling too far away from everything.

If you’re planning to explore the North Shore, I really recommend using Commack as your base. I’ve done that myself more than once. You’ll have easy access to the beaches and parks, and I think you’ll appreciate the laid-back vibe here just like I do. When I’m in the mood for a relaxing getaway—but still want good restaurants, shopping, and comfort—this is where I go. I have a feeling you’ll see why I keep coming back. You get a taste of Long Island living at its best.

When I Think You Should Visit

In my opinion, the best time to visit Commack is from May to October. That’s when I’ve found the weather ideal for beach days, garden strolls, and all the fun outdoor events happening around Long Island. Fall brings that crisp air and colorful foliage I love, and it’s a beautiful time for drives or quiet walks. If you’re looking for something low-key, winter is quieter—perfect for indoor exploring and a bit of shopping (which I always seem to do here).

How I Get There (And How You Can Too)

  • By Car: I usually take the Long Island Expressway (I-495) or Northern State Parkway—Commack’s about 1 to 1.5 hours from NYC, depending on traffic. I always plan for extra time if it’s a weekend.
  • By Train: If I’m not driving, I use the LIRR and hop off at Deer Park, Kings Park, or Huntington. You’ll just need a short drive or rideshare from there to reach town.
  • By Plane: I’ve flown into Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) before—it’s only about 20–25 minutes away. JFK and LaGuardia are also options, but they’re closer to an hour out by car, depending on traffic.

Where I Recommend Staying

  • Hampton Inn Long Island/Commack – I’ve stayed here for the convenience. You’ll like the free breakfast and the easy access right off the LIE. I also used the gym during my last visit—it’s solid.
  • Four Points by Sheraton Melville Long Island – This one’s a bit outside Commack in Plainview, but I’ve enjoyed the modern feel and how easy it is to hop back on the highway. It’s a good fit if you like something a bit more stylish.
  • Holiday Inn Express Hauppauge – I’ve stayed here when I needed something quick and reliable. You’ll find it just minutes away with a pool and business center—nice if you’re mixing work with travel.
