1. For Outdoor Lovers: Big Cedar Lodge - 20 minutes from Branson

We drove just twenty minutes south from Branson, the road winding through the Ozark hills before opening to Table Rock Lake.

I thought Big Cedar Lodge in Missouri’s Ozark Mountains was one of the best and most amazing resorts I’ve ever stayed at, an underrated gem that perfectly blends rustic wilderness charm with luxury resort living.

Spread across 4,600 acres near Table Rock Lake, Big Cedar Lodge felt like a grand outdoor playground, yet with all the upscale touches that made it both comfortable and unforgettable.

I loved the design and atmosphere, timbered lodges, cozy log cabins, and elegant cottages tucked into the forest or overlooking the lake. My room was warm and inviting, with a plush bed, stone fireplace, and private deck that opened to sweeping lake views. The rustic-chic style, complete with handcrafted furnishings and natural accents, struck the perfect balance between lodge coziness and refined comfort.

What amazed me most was the sheer variety of experiences. I went boating on Table Rock Lake, explored nature trails, and even visited the Lost Canyon Cave & Nature Trail via golf cart—a unique way to take in waterfalls and caves. Dining was another highlight. From fine dining at Osage Restaurant (with stunning views) to laid-back bites at Devil’s Pool, every meal felt rooted in local flavors and the resort’s outdoor spirit

For me, Big Cedar Lodge was more than just a resort. It was an amazing blend of adventure, relaxation, and Ozark beauty. Whether fishing, golfing at one of the signature courses, or simply stargazing by the lake, it’s truly one of the best hidden gems in the Midwest.

Nestled in the Ozark Mountains near Table Rock Lake, it had that rare balance of adventure and tranquility. I remember thinking, “This is the kind of place where we remember how to breathe again.” Whether wandering wooded trails or sitting beside a glowing fireplace, Big Cedar Lodge knew how to create unforgettable moments.

We drove a little over three hours west from St. Louis, the highway giving way to winding roads through the Ozarks before reaching Lake of the Ozarks.

Camden on the Lake buzzed with energy, in the best way. It was that perfect blend of lakeside relaxation and social fun, where we could sip cocktails on the balcony one moment and join a live music set the next.

I was instantly captivated by Camden on the Lake Resort, Spa, & Yacht Club, a lakeside retreat that perfectly blends modern leisure with a classic nautical flair. The atmosphere felt effortlessly upscale yet welcoming, with a stylish marina backdrop, sweeping water views, and a vibrant social energy that made it a true destination resort.

My suite was spacious and thoughtfully designed, with floor-to-ceiling windows that opened up to the sparkling waters of Lake Ozark. On our final night, I discovered The Fontaine in Kansas City. It’s one of my favorite hidden gems, a seriously underrated luxury escape.

Located right in the heart of the Country Club Plaza, this place offers the best of both worlds: sleek, modern design meets playful Renaissance charm.
