Review:
El Barzon Restaurante is an Italian and Mexican-inspired eatery with two dining rooms and a lovely enclosed wood-beamed courtyard for outdoor dining. Named for the part of a horse-drawn plow and part of a Puebloan folk song, the eatery is owned by chef/proprietor Norberto Garita who grew up in New York and brings his extensive culinary experience to the tables of Detroit. Double-covered tables centered with fresh red roses create a romantic ambiance, and the seasonal menu features fresh seafood, naturally-raised meats and chicken, house-made pasta and from-scratch sauces, and organic salads and vegetables. Signature dishes include chile Relleno, strozzapreti Alla Norcina, cavatelli alla Boscaiola with porcini mushrooms, halibut sauteed with tequila, and saltimbocca alla Romano. The full-service bar offers a wide range of libations, including casual wines from Italy and around the world, craft and draft beers, and classic cocktails made with high-end spirits.
