The Phillips Wharf Environmental Center is an important educational resource which was established 14 years ago on Tilghman Island. The center strives to nurture a love of the marine environment in children of all ages. Visitors can take part in interactive experiences which showcase the diversity of the Chesapeake Bay marine ecosystems. The waterfront campus offers year-round educational activities which include school visits with the “Fishmobile” as well as on-site activities for children of all ages and for adults. Visitors will learn about diverse marine topics including aquaculture, oyster growing, seafood processing, tourism and the environment. Best of all, the center is free to visit for all interested visitors.

2. Tilghman Watermen’s Museum


Learn local fishing history and admire maritime artifacts on an affordable cultural visit.

Newly relocated to the historic Lee House, which dates back to the late 1890’s, the Tilghman Watermen’s Museum showcases the lives and times of the early men and women who earned a living on the waters around Tilghman Island. The museum collections include many donated artworks and early photos which tell the story of the hey-days on the island, when more than 600 men and women worked in the fisheries and oyster dredging factories. You will learn about the original fishing boats from beautifully made models and see many original artifacts donated by some of the original watermen and women.
